Volunteers are an integral part of our Jewish Family Services team and Middlesex County. We couldn’t do what we do without the help of dedicated individuals who contribute their unique talents, skills, and knowledge to make an impact in our community. Our goal is to connect volunteers to a vital role in the agency or for the greater Middlesex County area via the RSVP program which is a positive and enriching experience for volunteers and clients alike.

If you want to help make a difference in your community, Jewish Family Service can use your help. We have volunteer opportunities in many of the programs and services that we offer as well as opportunities throughout Middlesex County. To learn about volunteer opportunities or for more information contact Michelle Beley-Bianco, Volunteer Coordinator at 732-777-1940, or [email protected]

Volunteer Opportunities

CAREER SERVICES – The JFS Career and Women’s Centers offer comprehensive career services to assist the unemployed, underemployed, career changers, women in transition, new Americans and early retirees in entering or reentering the workforce. If you have a background in Human Resources, Resume Writing (and cover letters too), enjoy helping with job search and interviewing skills, Career Services can definitely use your skill sets!

COMPUTER INSTRUCTORS – Do you like to teach others? Do you enjoy the computer? We can use your help to teach computer classes for Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Word and Intuit Quick Books. Teaching can be done on a one-to-one basis or in a group setting.

FRIENDLY VISITOR – Often elderly adults face the risk of becoming isolated over time from their communities, friends and family. Jewish Family Services sends volunteers to the homes of these isolated senior adults to provide socialization and a sense of connectedness to the community.

This program supervises, recruits, trains, and matches volunteers to provide assistance to seniors 65 and older in Middlesex County.

Volunteers may provide help through companionship, arranging for medical appointments and transportation. Days and Hours vary.

FOOD PANTRY – Over the past number of years, due to the economy and limited income many individuals and families find it difficult to meet their needs.  The JFS Kosher Food Pantry is designed to aid and supplement the unique challenges of affording kosher food. The high cost of kosher foods makes it difficult for Jewish families to uphold their traditions with dignity. Our services are available to anyone in need — regardless of their ethnic origin or religious preference. Volunteers are needed to pack and distribute bags of food. Training is available on Fridays.

HOSTS AND HOSTESSES – Enjoy working with seniors? Volunteers are needed to assist with our Senior Socialization Programs. JFS Volunteers may serve seniors, make coffee or tea, distribute information, and most importantly, be a friend to those who participate in the group. Do you have a special interest you would like to present to the group; can you teach them something new? Please let us know. What you do can make a senior’s life more interesting.

KOSHER MEALS ON WHEELS (KMOW) – Only through the team of dedicated KMOW volunteers can we provide Kosher Meals on Wheels to the many seniors who are homebound, disabled, unable to shop and/or cook for themselves. The program delivers hot and cold meals Monday through Friday. Volunteers work alone or in teams to make their Kosher Meals on Wheels deliveries in Middlesex County. Drivers and “jumpers” are needed. The “jumper” is the person who gets out of the car to bring the meal into the home. Volunteers are needed Monday through Friday, one day a week for 2 hours from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM or as a substitute on an as-needed basis. Drivers must have a valid NJ driver’s license, their own car, and be insured.

OFFICE WORKERS – Did you work in an office at some point in your life and you don’t want to lose you grasp of computer fundaments such as data entry or Microsoft Office programs? We can really use your skills. Volunteers are needed at both our Milltown and Monroe offices.

RETIRED AND SENIOR VOLUNTEER PROGRAM (RSVP) – The Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) is part of Senior Corps, a federally funded program of the Corporation for National & Community Service whose mission is to provide opportunity for individuals 55 years of age and older to volunteer their service to their community.  It has over 500,000 members nationwide. JFS holds the Middlesex County grant.

The program identifies volunteers and volunteer opportunities in the county and makes a careful connection. Numerous RSVP volunteer opportunities are available throughout Middlesex County. Each volunteer opportunity is different; requiring different skills, level of commitment, and training. Volunteers can choose where to serve, when to serve, how much time they want to serve, and whether to share their skills or develop new ones.

SENIOR MEDICARE PATROL (SMP) – The Senior Medicare Patrol (SMP) program provides an opportunity for volunteers to step up and make an impact in the fight against Medicare fraud, waste, and abuse. They increase public awareness about both the economic and health-related consequences, teaching beneficiaries how to prevent, detect, and report. SMP will match volunteers with a task that fits their time, interest, and location. On-line training is required.

STATE HEALTH INSURANCE ASSISTANCE PROGRAM (SHIP) – State Health Insurance Assistance Program (SHIP) volunteers provide free help to New Jersey Medicare beneficiaries who have problems with, or questions about their health insurance. SHIP is a statewide program sponsored by the New Jersey Department of Health and Senior Services with major funding from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services. Volunteer counselors do not provide legal advice, sell, recommend, endorse any specific insurance product, agent, insurance company, Health Maintenance Organization (HMO), Preferred Provider Organization (PPO) or Private Fee-for-Service (PFFS) plan. They provide information and assistance so that beneficiaries can make their own decisions. Volunteer training includes attending a 6-day mandatory workshop.[/vc_column_text][vc_separator][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1551394419637{margin-bottom: 20px !important;}”]
