Civics classes are offered for any permanent resident preparing for the US naturalization test. Dedicated bilingual teachers instruct students in ESL, history, politics, reading, and writing in order to familiarize citizenship applicants with the interview. In every class, students are taught the official USCIS civics questions. Instruction is also given to help students answer personal questions from the N-400 application. Comprehensive English language skills – speaking, listening, reading, and writing – are developed in each class with the specific goal of passing the citizenship exam. Classes are offered at various English proficiency levels at different times of the week. All JFS teachers are board-certified ESL instructors who are bilingual (English and Spanish).

Refugee Services

JFS, in partnership with the New Jersey Office for Refugees, provides social services for refugees and asylees. We help new Americans adjust to life in the United States and become self-sufficient. Refugees and asylees can receive free career counseling including assistance with writing resumes and cover letters, searching for jobs, filling out job applications, and more.
